Walk on By
One of the loveliest things to do in New York City is walk in Central Park. I’ve been trying to do it every day since I got back. Except for yesterday, which was so oppressively muggy that even just ambling at a very slow pace felt like wading through an overheated spa pool with a set of ankle weights on. After 10 minutes on foot as I walked to meet a friend for dinner I was sweating in places I didn’t think humanly possible. It was gross.
Anyway, I’m sure that doesn’t create the nicest of mental pictures, so erase it with this:
That’s my vista as I walk around the reservoir in the park. It’s not exactly rural, but it gives me the dose of greenery that I miss from the farm life. I block out the traffic noise – and the crazy homeless people ranting and raving (or snoring) on the park benches – with a little Stevie Wonder on the iPod. It’s not a bad way to start the day.

Boy I miss that view!
